I have only just started it, it will change shape as I update it.....
the official time for my first 10K race ever! That is 5:16 per km....I am pretty pleased with that - my original goal was to go sub 55min....but March turned out to be problematic for my training - 2 separate quad injuries, kids on spring break, skiing in Whistler, I could go on....
So then I thought I would be happy to just finish under an hour - well I blew that goal out of the water! My swimming is coming along too - I swam 500m nonstop today! My first tri (May 24) is only a 300m swim so I know I can at least do that now!
I have been logging my workouts since I decided to train for tri's in February - here are the totals i have put in so far (since Feb):
Let it be known that I can't stand wearing cycling shorts!!!! There couldn't be anything more unattractive for me to wear! And it feels like I've got a diaper between my legs too! 'nuf said!
Update on the pedals...i did finally get them figured out and even went out for a short ride the other day.
I joined a tri club this week - and went to Spin workout on Wednesday evening, and a running (track) workout last night....and they KICKED MY BUTT! These guys/gals are all seasoned triathletes (many did ironmans last year!)....and here I am...never even having done one yet - and my goal (at this point) is to just a few measly sprint distances this year!
I am still somewhat recovering from a leg injury last week (almost 100%)....when i got wiped out by a dog on a trail run and came down hard with my quad landing smack on a rock....and this week having a bit of a bug of somesort....so that didn't help with my training this week...
but tomorrow is a REST DAY.....looking forward to that....one is all it takes...then I start getting antsy to do 'something!'
My swimming is 'slowly' progressing...I am just figuring out the mechanics and timing for the breathing...but I did manage to actually SWIM LAPS today! albeit very slowly -and still with lots of breaks! But I couldn't do that 3 weeks ago!
I got my new bike yesterday! And within about 5 minutes I had my first injury too! (in my house LOL...no one saw....) It is going to take some getting used to those clip in pedals! I am not brave enough to go outside yet!
and Elsa mentioned the other day a pic she had seen of from a scrapbooking convention a few years ago and how much I have changed since then...I had to go and find these pics and 'refresh' my memory....I was STUNNED at what I saw! this is me in October 2003.....and I wasn't even at my heaviest yet!
Well.....I didn't do soooo great over Christmas/vacation....I ended up gaining 3 pounds back....but I guess it could have been worse. I have since lost those 3 pounds again plus another 3, so I am back on track.
Here is a pic of me while in Mexico - I weighed about 147 here:
I am currently 142 pounds. My goal is still 130 pounds. I plan to be at my goal by (or before) I run the Sun Run in April.
I have some 'news' regarding my fitness regime lately too. I am still working out with my personal trainer on mon-wed-fri....but I also started a Sun Run Learn to Run 10K faster program - so I am also running 3 times/week (right now about 2 hours/week total)......AND....get this.....
I have also registered for my first TRIATHALON!!!! I can't believe I did it...I have thought about it as a goal for a while now...but it is soooo easy to continue just 'thinking' about it and keeping on my 'to do list'.... But I did it - I actually registered for it!
I am doing this triathalon in Oliver, BC on June 15th of this year. If you click on the link and then click on the link at the top right for "entrants list' you will see my name!
Part of what has held me back from this goal of a triathalon was the knowledge that I am a CRAPPY swimmer....I have never had lessons so I never learned the 'technique' of swimming....never really felt comfortable with the 'side breathing' for freestyle....soooooo...I have registered to private swim lessons at UBC pool. I came across this website online while I was searching for information about swim lessons. It is about a technique called 'total immersion' and it looked intriguing to say the least. Watch the videos (there are several videos but you need to scroll down) linked at the top (by clicking on the bandwidth button) and tell me if you agree. Anyway - I clicked on the 'find a coach' link and discovered that there are 3 coaches listed for Canada and one is in Vancouver and trains at the pool only 10 mins from my house! I am starting swim lessons on Feb. 19th....
So my week will also have 2 swims in it and I will also have to fit in some longer bike rides as well! I am also excited because I have to (get to) get a new bike because my current bike is not anywhere near a road racing bike!
I'll start with a few pics from our trip to the Mexican Riviera back in January. I still haven't gone through all the pics - but here are a few that are resized for web. (as always...click on image for larger view)
***ack - this annoys me soooo much! These were all lined up nicely when I typed this out and pressed preview...but they are all messed up when I view my actual post!***
seeing as the recipients sometimes read my blog (and they are supposed to be a surprise)...but I can't help myself...I love how they turned out...these are going to be toppers on some photo calendars that I am having printed. I got the templates from here heather ann designs. what a time saver! Now just to get them printed.
Just over three weeks from now we will be relaxing here! Weather has been such a bust here for what seems like AGES...I can't wait to see some sunshine, swim in a nice warm ocean, and the sand between my toes for 2 weeks! Not to mention - not have to cook a single meal or make a single bed!
here is a link to the hotel: www.sirenisrivieramaya.com
and an update on my weight loss from my last post - I am 147 now :) I hope to lose about 5 more pounds before the trip.
